Detailed Itinerary:

​

Day1 Chengdu - Mt. Jiuding

Mt. Jiuding hiking tour will start from Chengdu. By 8am we will set out by driving towards the mountains of Minshan Range north of Chengdu. You will be briefed on the drive to Mt. Jiuding. The drive takes around 3 hours total and we should arrive by around 11am and check in to the park of Jiudingshan. We will start our hiking by Fuqi Tree at around 2800m and ascend gradually for around 2.5km and arrive Lilipa at 3100m. From Lilipa the trail becomes smaller and very steep. We want to take our time and walk slow for this part, try to catch breath while walking the steep part. After around 1km of steep we will arrive at Shimenkan at 3600m where the ascending becomes less steep. Views start to open up from Shimenkan and afterwards we will hike for another 1.5km and arrive our camp today by Jipengzi at 3700m. 

Please do your packing properly and take only what's necessary for the hike. Dinner and breakfast will be provided though simple therefore you don't need to bring much stuff with you so you may go lighter. You may also higher porter to help to carry your stuff but this part you pay by yourself. 

Arrive camp and be guided to your tents and wait for dinner while keeping yourself warm and dry. Meals provided by the camp is simple. You will be briefed on next day's plan by your guide during dinner. After dinner you are free to walk around the camp if weather is good to take photos of the mountains and sunset. Jipengzi Camp is located on rolling grass of a wide and gradual part of Jiuding Mountain where the views are amazing. 

Drive 3.5h, walk 5km ascending 800m, overnight camping

Day2 Mt. Jiuding - Chengdu

In the morning we will have a chance to wake up 1 hour earlier before sunrise and walk up to Black D Lake and wait for sunrise. This detour will take around 40 minutes and the sunrise view is stunning if the weather is clear. After sunrise we will then walk back to our camp and have breakfast before walk back the same way to car park. If you want to skip Black Dragon Lake then you may just stay by the camp where the sunrise there is also amazing. The walking back will also have the super steep part that we will need to be careful while walking. You are recommended to use walking poles for this part to protect your knees. 

Arrive car park and drive back to Chengdu in 3.5h. Normally we should arrive back to Chengdu by around 6pm. Tour ends.
 

Drive 3.5h, walk 8km ascending 150m, descending 950m.

 

Travel Tips:

 

1, This tour is most popular during late June to late July when the mountains are full of flowers(when it will also be very touristy especially on weekends);
2, If you want to avoid large groups of tourists, try avoid second half of June, July. While first half of June, August and September you will also see the mountains in green color only less flowers. You'll have higher chance of more clear weather if you are traveling by earlier or later than July(the flower season). 
3, This tour is available to do in all seasons: winter will be dry and snowy, April,May, October and November are all good seasons with higher chance of visibility/views of Sea of Cloud but the mountains won't be green. 
4, This tour will involve sleeping one night in hut or tent.
5, Elevation of hiking is beteen 2900m and 3700m, Chance of having AMS is low. 
6, The trail going up is steep and can be muddy after rain.
