Hiking Season
Chengdu is located by the bottom of the Sichuan Basin where it is usually humid all year round. All seasons are good to do hikings around Chengdu yet you want to avoid winter if possible. The reasons that winter is of a less comfortable season to do hikings include: 1. The forests and mountains are usually with a dark color and not as fresh as in other seasons. 2.the usual gloomy weather is common in winter from November to the next February. 3.if you are doing the higher mountain hikings, it can be really cold in the mountains. Although to avoid winter is not always correct as at places like Mt. Emei and Mt. Zhaogong, Hongyan Ridge, etc, they have much higher chance of seeing good views in the winter time other than other seasons. Remember that in Chengdu, as long as you go high over 2000 meters or 3000 meters, the weather is fine in winter, by then you will understand that the poor people in Chengdu are just covered in the thick fog that clogs low.

Spring: March - May
This season is the spring time and often is the blooming seasons. When you go hike, you will see flowers. Unstable weather in this season makes it hard to predict the weather. You may experience rains and slippery trail while walking. And places like Hongyan Ridge, Huajian Ridge, Mt. Jiufeng will still have snow on the higher part.

Summer: June – September
Summer is suited for all the hikings, it’s warm and sometimes hot. Mountains are at their greenest but it is also the monsoon season where sometimes there are heavy rains. While in the city is still hot but the hikings are all at cooler places.

Fall: September – November
Good season to do all the hikings, dry and good weather normally. Not too cold yet you don’t see much rain.

Winter: November – February

Winter does not usually provides good weather conditions in Chengdu but it is the dry season. And many of these hiking places are located at a much higher altitude with usually better visibility although some places may see a bit dreary color in winter.
